This late summer, Kindness Day Hotel welcomes a piece of star, an illustration studio from Chiayi, for a special in-house collaboration. Through its distinctive torn-paper collage and hand-drawn artistry, a piece of star will create a one-of-a-kind keepsake for every traveling party, a lasting memento of your journey.
Inspired by each traveler's expressions, interactions, and the unique atmosphere of the moment, the artist will create a one-of-a-kind portrait that captures the spirit of your journey. We hope that whenever you look at this artwork again, it will bring you back to the wonderful moments you shared at Kindness Day Hotel.
About the Artists｜ a piece of star
a piece of star is an illustration brand co-founded by two artists from Chiayi, Megahoshi and Dong Jun. Blending the texture of paper, vibrant colors, and illustration, they create distinctive works through a variety of mixed media. Each piece is rich in storytelling and reflects a unique artistic identity.
✦ Megahoshi
Specializes in key visuals, animation artwork, picture books, and live portrait illustration. By combining hand-torn paper collage with digital illustration, the artist creates richly layered works that bring stories to life.
✦ Dong Jun
Focuses on key visuals, book illustration, and packaging design. Through bold blocks of color and a distinctive illustrative style, the artist creates warm, expressive works with a strong personal identity.
For this special event, both artists will create side by side, crafting a one-of-a-kind portrait for every traveler, transforming each journey into a lasting keepsake.
About the Artwork — Torn-Paper Portraits
Each traveling party will receive one exclusive set of artwork.
Artwork Includes:
🔹One portrait set for two travelers
🔹Two original artworks, 10 × 10 cm each, (unframed)
🔹Created on-site by both artists
🔹The original artworks will be yours to take home. The hotel will be granted permission to use digital reproductions of the artworks for promotional purposes. A consent form must be signed prior to the experience.
Every portrait is inspired by the travelers' expressions, interactions, and the atmosphere of the moment. Composition, colors, and artistic elements are thoughtfully interpreted by the artists, ensuring that each piece is naturally expressive, deeply personal, and rich in storytelling.
What Is a “Torn-Paper Portrait”?
Unlike traditional portraiture that focuses on realistic representation, a “Torn-Paper Portrait” combines the colors, textures, and organic shapes of torn-paper collage with the artist’s personal interpretation. Through careful observation, the artists capture the unique expressions, personalities, and atmosphere of each travel moment. As a result, every artwork becomes a one-of-a-kind creation.
What we hope travelers take home is not just a piece of art, but a personal memory that belongs only to their journey.
How to Participate
Simply book the “Torn-Paper Portrait Experience Package” through our official website and complete the time slot reservation form to enjoy this complimentary experience.
Event Dates: Saturday, August 29 – Sunday, August 30, 2026
Booking Opens: Monday, July 27, 2026 at 12:00 PM
Available until all slots are fully reserved.
Experience Hours: 2:00 PM – 5:30 PM
Available time slots are scheduled every 30 minutes from 2:00 PM, 2:30 PM, 3:00 PM … to 5:30 PM. 8 groups available per day.
On your check-in day, please arrive at the event venue according to your reserved time slot. The artists will create your exclusive artwork on-site, with each session taking approximately 25 minutes per group.
Reservation Guidelines
🔹After completing your booking for the “Torn-Paper Portrait Experience Package” through the official website, please use your official booking confirmation number to select your preferred time slot via the reservation form. Reservation Form Link
🔹The reservation form will display the remaining available time slots, allowing you to check availability before completing your booking. Each time slot is limited to one group and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
🔹The reserved experience date must match your check-in date: Guests checking in on August 29 may only reserve a time slot on August 29, and guests checking in on August 30 may only reserve a time slot on August 30.
🔹Guests who fail to complete the reservation form before the registration deadline will be considered to have forfeited their experience opportunity. No additional arrangements, compensation, or refunds will be provided.
🔹If the official hotel reservation is canceled, the corresponding experience slot will be released by the hotel, and the experience eligibility will not be retained.
Important Notes
🔹This experience is exclusively available to guests who have booked the “Torn-Paper Portrait Experience Package.” Guests who have not reserved this package are not eligible to participate.
🔹The experience quota is provided according to the room package and is limited to two participants per artwork session. If an additional guest is added to the room reservation, the additional guest will not be eligible for the experience.
🔹On the day of the event, please arrive at the Kindness Day Hotel first-floor experience area at your reserved time to complete check-in.
🔹As the experience requires consent for portrait rights authorization, the Torn-Paper Portrait Experience is limited to the two registered guests included in the reservation. Additional family members or friends are not eligible to participate.
🔹The “Torn-Paper Portrait” focuses on capturing the spirit, expression, and artistic interpretation rather than realistic portraiture. Creative elements will be freely developed by the artists based on their observations at the scene. Once completed, artworks cannot be revised or modified.
🔹Event photography and video recording will take place during the experience for future promotional purposes. If you prefer not to be included in any photos or videos, please inform our staff on-site.
Artwork Care Instructions
To preserve this travel keepsake and allow it to accompany you for years to come, we recommend the following care methods:
▌Moisture Protection
Please avoid exposing the artwork to humidity or direct contact with water.
▌Artwork Repair
If the paper elements lift slightly due to storage conditions, gently apply a small amount of glue stick and press the area flat to restore it.
